Congratulation to the 1st place, Gold medal CX debate team of Deanna Duensing and Dylan Petit.  Placing 1st in the district sets a EHS school record of 4 consecutive trips to the state UIL Cross-Examination Debate contest which will be held  March 17-20 on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. .   This will be Deanna's fourth trip to CX state debate and  Dylan's first state debate appearance.

The team defeated teams fro Olney, Seymour, and Quanah.  This is the third gold medal for Deanna taking silver last year.  She and Dylan will compete against 64 other 2A schools across the state of Texas.  They will also be competing for top speaking awards given each year to the top five in the state.
The CX debate team was established in 2015, and has placed 1st out of 4 years.
At state, Deanna and Dylan will be debating four rounds of debate  the first day, and hopefully advance to the second day of octofinals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.  Coaches JP Snow and Brenda Beebe are extremely proud of this team and the work they have put into debate. This years resolution is: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce its restrictions on legal immigration to the United States. "
The team has traveled to several tournaments, Sherman High School, Tarrant County College Debate Tournament, Holliday High School "Peggy Wallace Invitational" and Bangs High School Debate.  The team placed 2nd at each tournament competing against much larger 4A,5A and 6A teams. Each time the students and their coaches would pack up leave around 4:30 am and return around 10:00pm.  According to Ms. Beebe, it proves that attending tournament makes a big difference.
Deanna sat her personal goal to make it to state 4 years running, and with hopes of placing in the top five speakers.  Congratulations EHS debaters. GFW
